Tom G Anderson - Managing Partner and Rigging Manager

Tom grew up on the Mystic river in Noank CT, and according to him "sailed anything that would or could float!"

Since 1972, Tom has amassed an impressive history of ocean racing aboard a wealth of trophy winning boats such as Jubilee, Rain Dancer, Mule Team, Not by Bread Alone, Salty Tiger, and Salty Goose. He has raced the full circuit including Newport-Bermuda six times (4 as watch captain), Marblehead-Halifax, SORC and the North American and World 1 ton Championships.

Tom is well known for his creativity and innovation with respect to application of the latest technologies. Tom conceived stripped cover halyards and gained the first ORC approvals for flat jacklines, both now the norm on today's hottest rigs and offshore boats. Tom's use of technology and his ability to provide a simple solution to a complex problem is what makes Tom one of the most sought after riggers in the field.

A member of the Off Soundings Club, The Storm Trysail Club and the Mystic River Mudhead Sailing Association, he races with customers and friends.

Wes Oliver- Ships Store Manager

While he will never replace the “Head Curmudgeon”, Wes brings a wealth of sailing and boat maintenance experience to Hathaways.  He grew up sailing Lightnings and Thistles on Huntington Bay, when he wasn’t crewing aboard his family’s Gulfstream 30.  After college, he turned to offshore racing on Duster, Caper, Zest, Recluta, Toscana, Elixir and Obsession, most often as bowman, before acquiring his first boat in 1979.  Over the years he has sailed 9 Bermuda races, and uncounted Block Island and Vineyard races, winning the NORT on Zest in 1972.

Wes is also a qualified PRO, having participated on the NYYC Race Committee in 4 America’s Cups and as NYYC RC Chair in later years.  He also served on the RC for the 1996 Olympics.  He continues as PRO for the JSA Eastern Districts at Norwalk Yacht Club each year and at various other regattas.

He has followed his 2 sons through Junior Sailing, as Chair of Norwalk YC’s junior program for several years and as owner’s rep and coordinator of Norwalk’s Junior Big Boat program.  The Pixel was conceived by Wes and designed by Bruce Kirby, and Wes’ company, Nearwater Boats produces and markets the Pixel, giving him a grounding in fiberglass and composite boat manufacture.  Wes and his family continue to sail their cruising boat whenever time permits.  He is a member of New York Yacht Club, Storm Trysail Club and Norwalk Yacht Club.
